§ Mr. Ron Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services which hon. Members and which other persons constitute the United Kingdom members of the United Nations preparatory committee for the International Population Conference in Mexico who will meet in January 1984; and whether the preparatory committee will advise him on the organisations to be consulted prior to the conference.
§ Mr. John PattenThe preparatory committee will comprise members of the United Nations Population Commission, on which the United Kingdom is represented by officials from the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys and the Overseas Development Administration.
The secretary-general of the conference is to make a progress report to the preparatory committee on preparations for the conference. Any recommendations which emerge from the discussion in the committee will be carefully considered by the United Kingdom Government.
