§ Mr. WaldegraveIn 1982–83 an estimated total of £6.57 per capita was spent on the arts in England, excluding libraries, by central Government, local authorities and business sponsors. There are no authoritative estimates of expenditure by private individuals. Corresponding figures for Scotland and Wales are matters for the Secretaries of State concerned.
