§ 21. Mr. Richard Pageasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many overseas companies in the information technology field have invested in manufacturing and research facilities in the United Kingdom over the last four years.
§ Mr. ButcherBritain has become a magnet for inward investment in high technology industries. There have been some sixty such companies of which my Department is aware. Inward investment over the past four years in all sectors will have resulted in at least 45,000 new jobs. Notable recent investments include Wang in Stirling, involving £38 million and 700 jobs, and Hewlett, Packard in Bristol, involving total investments of £43 million and over 950 jobs.
