§ Mr. Roy Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give the starting date for each of the following road developments in Gloucestershire: the A417 Birdlip bypass, the A417 Brockworth bypass and A417 Stratton bypass.
§ Mr. RidleyI am grateful to the hon. Gentleman for his interest in my constituency. Subject to completion of the necessary statutory procedures I expect construction to start on the Birdlip bypass towards the end of 1985 and on Brockworth bypass towards the end of 1986. As indicated in the White Paper "Policy for Roads—England 1983" (Cmnd. 9059) work on the Stratton bypass is currently suspended and I cannot say now when it may prove possible to restore this scheme to the active programme.
