HL Deb 13 December 1983 vol 446 cc231-2WA
Baroness Gardner of Parkes

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What decisions have been made about a site for the third Garden Festival in 1989.

The Minister of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Bellwin)

We received proposals from a number of authorities in England, Scotland and Wales concerning a total of 19 sites. We have decided to proceed with a detailed study of three of them: Gateshead (Norwood-Redheugh), Glasgow (Princes Dock) and Swansea (Lower Swansea Valley). The study, which will be completed in the summer, will provide information on a consistent basis on aspects such as costs, design possibilities and likely income. The timing will enable the early results from the Liverpool festival to be assimilated before a final decision is made.
