HC Deb 12 December 1983 vol 50 c304W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if, in view of the losses being incurred by United Kingdom producers, he will take steps to reduce the effects on United Kingdom prices of the timing of release of stocks of New Zealand lamb; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. MacGregor

New Zealand lamb has traditionally been marketed in the early part of the year and has complemented the seasonality of our own production, helping to satisfy consumer demand for lamb throughout the year. I believe that the New Zealand Meat Producers Board generally adopts a responsible attitude to the release of its products so as to avoid weakening the markets.
