HC Deb 12 December 1983 vol 50 c335W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Under-Secretary of State answering in respect of the Arts if he will ensure that, in the event of the Greater London council being abolished, the London orchestral concert board will be given funds sufficiently adequate to guarantee the survival of the four existing London orchestras.

Mr. Waldegrave

It would be premature to forecast the level of public funding which might be available for the London orchestal concerts boards after the abolition of the Greater London council in 1986. This will depend on a number of factors, including the outcome of the present consultations, the needs of the board at the time, its level of income from other sources and public expenditure considerations overall.
