§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will explain why Her Majesty's chief inspector of prisons' report on his inspection of Her Majesty's prison, Aylesbury, which took place in February and March of 1983, was not published until August 1983 and not issued until November 1983.
§ Mr. HurdThe report was received by the Department on 24 August and published with an accompanying statement by my right hon. and learned Friend on 24 November. The interval reflects the careful consideration which officials and Ministers gave to this report. The completion of inspection reports generally has been delayed by staffing difficulties in the inspectorate. Her Majesty's Chief Inspector has taken steps which should result in the elimination over a period of the backlog of reports now being prepared.
§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if the formal recommendation of Her Majesty's chief inspector of prisons relating to Her Majesty's prison, Aylesbury, have now been fully implemented; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HurdThe report of Her Majesty's chief inspector on Her Majesty's prison, Aylesbury, was published on 24 November together with a statement by right hon. and learned Friend of the action now being taken on the formal recommendations. The statement makes clear what parts of the recommendations have already been implemented 343W and what parts depend on further study or discussion. Copies of all inspection reports, and of the accompanying statements, are placed in the Library of the House.
