For 1981 the latest estimates are that gross trading profits and surpluses, net of stock appreciation, constituted 13 per cent. of gross domestic product in Scotland and 11 per cent. in the United Kingdom excluding the continental shelf; they constituted 25 per cent. of manufacturing gross domestic product in Scotland and 19 per cent. in the United Kingdom.
