HC Deb 09 December 1983 vol 50 c287W
Mr. Dover

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the expenditure expected for 1983–84 for hospital and community health services, family practitioner services and centrally financed services, together with the total current expenditure on the National Health Service in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Expected total gross expenditure on the three services in England in 1983–84 is as follows:

£ million
Hospital and Community Health Services 9,300
Family Practitioner Services 3,000
Centrally Financed Services 580

Figures rounded to the nearest £10 million.

My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are responsible for relevant expenditure in other parts of the United Kingdom, but overall expenditure on health services, including personal social services in Northern Ireland, is expected to be about £16 billion.
