§ Mr. GummerBritain benefits considerably from the European social fund. The bulk of allocations are in respect of national employment and training schemes and cannot be broken down on a regional basis. In 1982 the Manpower Services Commission was allocated £167,958,514 for all its eligible training programmes, which was 65.3 per cent. of the total allocation for the United Kingdom, and included support for people in Merseyside and Knowsley. The following list shows those projects run by local authorities, voluntary bodies and private firms, which are also currently in receipt of ESF aid on Merseyside, including those in Knowsley.
The European Commission will shortly announce a further, final, set of decisions on 1983 allocations. This may include further assistance for schemes on Merseyside and in Knowsley.
