§ 36. Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, pursuant to his replies to the hon. Member for Newham, North-Westest regarding the compulsory purchase order on the properties in connection with the development of the north-east London polytechnic, Official Report, 11 April, c. 343, what were the clarifications which he sought from Newham council between May 1980 and March 1983; and when these were requested and supplied.
§ Mr. WaldegraveThe issues on which clarification was sought from the London borough of Newham at different stages included the polytechnic's development plan 1976, its possible revision in the light of changing circumstances, the timing of the various stages of the proposed development, when the need for the properties subject to the compulsory purchase order would arise, the proposed numbers and location of students and the intentions of the joint education committee.
In this regard letters were sent from the Department on 4 September 1980, 9 June 1982 and 6 September 1982. Replies from the Newham council were dated 19 and 25 September 1980, 6 October 1980, 13 February 1981, 15 July 1982, 29 September 1982 and 2 December 1982.
