HC Deb 26 April 1983 vol 41 c290W
Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will state how many non-traditional houses exist which were built between 1945 and 1955, and 1955 and 1960, excluding temporary prefabricated houses; and if he will list the systems, giving details of the numbers built in each instance.

Mr. Stanley

Approximately 305,000 non-traditional houses were completed between 1945 and 1955 by local authorities, new towns, housing associations and Government Departments in England and Wales and a further 25,000 were under construction on 31 December 1955. The names of the systems and the numbers completed in each instance are listed in the annual Command Paper, "Housing Return for England and Wales", for that period, copies of which are in the Library. Information as to the number of houses is not available after 31 December 1955. Nor is it known what numbers may have been built by private housebuilders for sale. Information on the present numbers and ownership of these dwellings is being sought from all local authorities in England as I indicated in my answer to my hon. Friend the Member for Reading, North (Mr. Durant) on 22 February 1983.—[Vol. 37, c.430].
