HC Deb 25 April 1983 vol 41 cc212-3W
Mr. Bulmer

asked the Prime Minister what Government resources are being devoted to the study of future patterns of employment; and under the auspices of which Departments.

The Prime Minister

The Department of Employment and the Manpower Services Commission take the lead on studies of future patterns of employment. Under their auspices, work is being done in connection with the operation of the careers service and with the Government's new training initiative; and work connected with the demand for highly qualified manpower is being done in collaboration with the Department of Education and Science. Studies are also in progress at a number of academic institutions under contracts with the Department of Employment the Manpower Services Commission and the Social Science Research Council.

Expenditure is not allocated in a way which permits the resources devoted directly to the study of future patterns of employment to be distinguished from resources devoted to other related subjects.
