§ Mr. Harold Walkerasked the Secretary of State for Employment what advice is given by his Department or the Manpower Services Commission to unemployed persons seeking employment outside the United Kingdom, in order to make such persons aware that by doing so they may forfeit their right to social security benefits in the United Kingdom on their return.
§ Mr. Gummer[pursuant to his reply, 18 April 1983, c. 35]: An unemployed person who asks for advice about entitlement to unemployment benefit whilst abroad or after employment abroad is issued with leaflet UBL 22. This gives only broad guidance on a very complex subject. If further advice is needed, the inquiry is sent to the Department of Health and Social Security overseas branch which will reply direct to the inquirer.
68WPeople who inquire about any other social security benefit are referred for answer to the local office of the DHSS.
