§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeExpenditure on personal social services is not covered by a specific grant and is supported by unhypothecated block grant. The indicative figure for current expenditure on personal social services adopted for purposes of the Rate Support Grant Report (England) 1983–84 and shown in annex A to the report is £63 million higher than the figure in the Government's Expenditure Plans (Cmnd. 8494). This addition is to reflect pressure on the personal social services, including any developments required by the Mental Health (Amendment) Act 1982. That Act is not expected to impose any significant extra expenditure on local authorities.
