HL Deb 18 April 1983 vol 441 c469WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they have in mind for improving the handling of complaints against the police in Northern Ireland.

The Minister of State, Northern Ireland Office (The Earl of Gowrie)

Following publication last October of the Government's proposals for the police complaints procedure in England and Wales, my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland is considering whether changes might be made to the system for investigating complaints against the Royal Ulster Constabulary. He hopes to publish shortly a discussion paper which will invite views on this important issue.
