HL Deb 14 April 1983 vol 441 c392WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, as the line between Government information and party propaganda is a frequent subject of contention whichever Government are in office, they will answer the supplementary question by Lord Jenkins of Putney at col, 1229 on 24th March last.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Belstead)

As I explained in my answer to the noble Lord's supplementary on 24th March (col, 1229), I do not accept that it is difficult to distinguish between what he termed "party political propaganda" and the proper explanation of the policies of Her Majesty's Government. The film "The Peace Game", to which the noble Lord refers, was quite properly issued by the Central Office of Information in its public information role.
