§ Mr. McQuarrieasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will consider the establishment of a free port zone in the town of Fraserburgh, in view of the high level of male unemployment in that area.
§ Mr. Bruce-Gardyne[pursuant to his reply, 11 April 1983, c. 333]: The Government are currently considering the criteria by which applicants for free port designation will be judged. These criteria will be announced shortly for the guidance of potential operators. All bids for free port facilities received subsequently will be fully and carefully considered. But the overriding consideration must be the commercial viability of free port locations.
