HC Deb 28 October 1982 vol 29 c546W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether, in view of the usefulness of the tachograph in the case of the serious coach accident which occurred in France during the summer, and more recent evidence of driving hours offences by British coach drivers when travelling abroad, he will consider taking steps to require the fitting of tachographs in vehicles used for the carriage of passengers on regular services.

Mr. Eyre

No. The control of drivers' hours on passenger services which run to a fixed timetable is relatively straightforward and does not justify the cost to the industry of fitting and maintaining tachographs.
