HC Deb 28 October 1982 vol 29 cc507-8W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, pursuant to his answer of 21 October,Official Report, c. 497-98, if he will set out those months since United Kingdom accession to the European Economic Community during which world sugar prices have been higher than European Economic Community sugar prices; and what is the current world price of sugar as a proportion of the European Economic Community price.

Mr. Peter Wacker

Since the United Kingdom joined the European Community there have been two periods when the world price for white sugar was above the Community threshold price. These were from December 1973 to May 1975 and from May 1980 to March 1981. World prices are currently about 33 per cent. of the Community threshold price and about 40 per cent. of the intervention price.
