asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his latest estimate of total revenue and expenditure in the financial year 1982–83.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish in theOfficial Reporttables on the same basis as those published as tables 1-5 in the Treasury Progress Report, September 1981, breaking down expenditure and revenue in each financial year since 1973–74.

I regret that this information is not readily available on this basis and that it cannot be provided without a disproportionate expenditure of time and resources. For a full breakdown of expenditure and revenue on a calendar year basis from 1971 to 1981, I would refer my hon. Friend to the Central Statistical Office's "National Income and Expenditure", 1982 edition. Additional information on a financial year basis will be found in table 19 of the 1982–83 "Financial Statement and Budget Report" and in table 1.12 and the tables in parts 3 and 4 of "The Government's Expenditure Plans 1982–83 to 1984–85" (Cmnd. 8494).
