HC Deb 28 October 1982 vol 29 cc561-2W
Mr. Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what would be the cost of providing to industrial and commercial ratepayers the same relief from general rates as is presently provided to domestic ratepayers.

Mr. King

The loss in rate revenue from giving to non-domestic ratepayers in England and Wales the equivalent to the relief of 18.5p in the pound currently given to domestic ratepayers would be approximately £700 million in 1982–83. Just under £600 million of this would be attributable to the industrial and business sectors.
