Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was spent on each primary and secondary pupil in actual and real terms from 1962 onwards, taking 1962 as the base year.

Information about expenditure in the earlier part of the period is available only for England and Wales together and is on a slightly different basis from that for recent years. The figures are none the less broadly comparable, and are as follows:
