HC Deb 28 October 1982 vol 29 cc540-1W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will obtain from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis and publish in theOfficial Reportas much detailed information for the most recent period for which figures are available of the numbers of criminal attacks upon the person causing grievous bodily harm involving the offence known as "mugging" which nave taken place in the London borough of Newham, the numbers arrested and charged with these offences, and, where known, the ethnic origins of those arrested and found guilty of these offences when charged.

Mr. Mayhew

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that the information immediately available relates to offences recorded in the police district of Newham, Havering and Barking; the number of recorded offences of "robbery of personal property following a sudden attack in the open there being no previous association between assailant and victim" in this area was 109 in the first half of 1982.
