HC Deb 28 October 1982 vol 29 cc491-2W
Mr. Bowden

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much money belonging to long-stay patients has now accumulated in long-term balances; and how much of this belongs to people of pensionable age.

Mr. Rossi

The amount of money belonging to patients, but held on their behalf by hospitals in England was £37.5 million in March 1982. It is open to any NHS patient to ask the hospital to take care of his money, and no information is available centrally about how much of the money held by hospitals belongs to particular groups of patients.
