HC Deb 28 October 1982 vol 29 c462W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Prime Minister what are the responsibilities of(a)the Chancellor of the Exchequer and(b)the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs with regard to fiscal arrangements in the Falkland Islands.

The Prime Minister

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has no responsibilities with regard to fiscal arrangements in the Falkland Islands.

Under paragraph 182(2) of the Colonial Regulations, the Civil Commissioner is required to submit annual estimates to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. These estimates are presented to the Legislative Council for approval by an appropriation ordinance. Her Majesty, through the Secretary of State, can disallow the ordinance.
