HL Deb 27 October 1982 vol 435 c602WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What progress has been made in decontaminating Gruinard Island from the Second World War germ warfare tests which left the ground infected with lethal spores of anthrax.

Viscount Trenchard: Following laboratory tests of a number of potential decontaminants, field trials on Gruinard Island took place in July and August. No worthwhile results will be immediately available as the analytical process has to be a prolonged one in order to be effective.
