HC Deb 26 October 1982 vol 29 c368W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Minister for Trade if he will make a statement on the state of, and prospects for, trade between the United Kingdom and Taiwan.

Sir Patrick Wall

asked the Minister for Trade if he will make a statement on trade with Taiwan.

Dr. Vaughan

[pursuant to his reply, 25 October 1982, c. 267]:Some British firms export successfully to Taiwan and more are being encouraged to do so by the Anglo Taiwan trade committee from which information about the market and its opportunities can be obtained. For the past nine years the United Kingdom has had a small but growing deficit on visible trade with Taiwan.

The Government remain seriously concerned about the copying and counterfeiting of British goods in Taiwan, and we have made it clear that we look to the authorities there to take effective measures to eliminate these practices.
