§ Mr. Lathamasked the Minister for Trade whether, in the light of high and growing level of imports of shoes into the United Kingdom from Italy and the depressed state of the British shoe manufacturing industry, he will now take steps to stabilise or reduce the flow of such imports so as to sustain a viable domestic production capacity.
§ Mr. Sproat:Quantitative restrictions on imports from other member States are not possible under Community law. If however there is evidence of a breach of the Community's rules on competition or State aids, my Department will be glad to advise on its presentation to the European Commission.
