HC Deb 26 October 1982 vol 29 cc345-6W
Sir Peter Mills

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations have been made by his Department to ensure that adequate coverage is given to Devon and in particular Tavistock and Okehampton to receive Channel Four television; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Raison:

The extension of coverage of the fourth channel service is the responsibility of the IBA. The authority's plans are designed to ensure that the vast majority of homes in the major areas of population in all regions will receive the service from the outset. It is a considerable achievement that some 87 per cent. of the population will be catered for by 2 November 1982.

The main transmitters at Caradon hill and Stockland hill will serve large parts of Devon from the outset; the former can be received by some residents of Tavistock. The Tavistock and Okehampton relays will be converted as priorities and resources permit.
