HC Deb 26 October 1982 vol 29 cc389-90W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what investigations are being undertaken into the effect of asbestos on water and into the dangers of water being transmitted in asbestos pipes; and whether any such investigations will be published.

Mr. Giles Shaw:

The occurrence of fibres in water supplies after normal treatment, and the effects of passage of water supplies through asbestos cement pipes, have been investigated for the Department of the Environment by the Water Research Centre. A final report to DOE on this work is expected within the next month.

The report will be published as soon as possible.
