§ Mr. Cyril Smithasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will reconsider his proposals to withdraw initial teacher training from De La Salle College, Middleton; and why the cuts in Catholic teacher training courses are disproportionately greater than the average for other colleges.
§ Mr. Waldegrave:The proposals that initial teacher training should be discontinued at fourteen institutions of higher education were provisional, and are being reviewed in the light of subsequent representations. The reductions proposed for Roman Catholic colleges were the result of considering a wide range of factors which were not designed to result in uniform cuts.
