§ Mr. Arnoldasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will bring into force section 48 of the Criminal Law Act 1977.
§ Mr. Mayhew:An experimental project to test a scheme of advance disclosure based on summaries of the prosecution case in trials of either-way offences will begin in Newcastle on 1 November. It is hoped to establish a second project in another area. The experiment will last for a year and is designed to provide information which will afford a basis for further consideration of the implementation of section 48.
