§ Mr. Whiteheadasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he will publish the total intake into (a) universities, (b) polytechnics and (c) other maintained institutions of students who had left school in England within the preceding 12 months on to courses of higher education in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982, respectively, using estimates where actuals are not available;
(2) if he will publish the total intake into (a) universities, (b) polytechnics and (c) other maintained institutions of students who had left school in Wales within the preceding 12 months on to courses of higher education in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982, respectively, using estimates where actuals are not yet available.
§ Mr. Waldegrave:No estimates of the 1982–83 intake to higher education are yet available. The following table gives estimated intakes to higher education of entrants who were domiciled in England and Wales and left school within the previous year based upon readily available information colleted from the establishments of higher education. Separate figures for each country are not readily available. The figures must be regarded only as orders of magnitude as they have been obtained by combining information from several sources.
