§ Mr. Winnickasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the remarks of Mr. Hambleton, the former chief constable of Dorset, he is satisfied that no obstruction of Operation Countryman has occurred; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Whitelaw:I have concluded that there is no evidence of obstruction of a kind which would have prevented those responsible for Operation Countryman from doing their job. I have today replied to the representations made to me on this matter by the right hon. Member for Roxburgh, Selkirk and Peebles (Mr. Steel), and a copy of my letter has been placed in the Library of the House.
