§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a statement on his imposition in September 1981 of the ban on the import of poultry to protect the United Kingdom flock from Newcastle disease, in the light of the European Court's decision on this subject; and whether he will maintain the ban.
§ Mrs. Fenner:Details of the revised health measures which the Government intend to apply shortly to imports of fresh and frozen poultry meat, and eggs for human consumption, have recently been sent to other member 80W States of the European Community. These measures represent the outcome of discussions with the Commission and some member States over recent weeks, in the light of the judgment of the European Court. They are designed to safeguard the health of the national flock, whilst permitting the resumption of trade.
