§ Sir Brandon Rhys Williamsasked the Prime Minister if Her Majesty's Government will make arrangements to amalgamate those offices of the Inland Revenue dealing with the collection of national insurance contributions with those offices of the Department of Health and Social Security dealing with national insurance benefits.
§ The Prime Minister:No. The disadvantages of such amalgamation would outweigh the advantages. My right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services do, however, keep under review the procedures for consultation between the two Departments on collection and enforcement of tax and national insurance contributions.
