Mr. Brinton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many students are in receipt of mandatory awards in respect of degree courses undertaken at further education colleges; and if he will break down the figures by local education authority.

In the academic year 1980–81, the latest year for which information is available, there were 107,111 students in England and Wales on first degree courses in further education establishments receiving a mandatory award from their local education authority. The subdivision by local education authority is as follows:
