§ Sir George YoungStatistics are available only in respect of the number of homeless households for which local authorities accept a responsibility to secure accomodation under the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act 1977. In 1981, the latest period for which figures are available, authorities in Greater London accepted a responsibility for some 18,500 such households.
