HC Deb 30 November 1982 vol 33 c142W
Mr. McMahon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many places in hostels are available to patients recovering from mental ill-health who wish to live eventually in Govan or in the city of Glasgow.

Mr. John MacKay

Strathclyde regional council and voluntary agencies provide 28 hostel places and 49 group tenancy places within the city of Glasgow for those recovering from mental illness. Thirty-three of the group tenancy places are in the south-west of the city. Greater Glasgow health board provides 32 pre-discharge places in halfway houses attached to mental illness hospitals. Patients recovering from mental illness may in addition be accommodated in other facilities, such as sheltered housing, or are supported in their own homes through day hospital attendance, community psychiatric clinics and voluntary social clubs.
