HC Deb 30 November 1982 vol 33 c138W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if, in view of its undersubscription, he will now withdraw the assisted places scheme.

Dr. Boyson

There are now more than 8,500 assisted pupils, more than two-thirds of whom are from families with below average income. The scheme has been most successful in widening the range of educational opportunities and there are no grounds for its withdrawal.
