HC Deb 29 November 1982 vol 33 c24W
36. Mr. Tom Benyon

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many secondary schools have been provided with a microcomputer under his Department's scheme.

Mr. Butcher

My Department's micros in schools scheme had last week received 5,800 applications from secondary schools. Given the Education Department's estimate there are about 6,000 maintained and independent schools in the United Kingdom, the scheme has now covered virtually all of them. I am delighted at the success of this scheme as I am sure the House will be.
