HC Deb 29 November 1982 vol 33 c21W
22. Mr. Beaumont-Dark

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will estimate the growth in turnover or sales for the British microcomputer industry over the last three years.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

The rapid expansion of the British microcomputer industry has prevented any accurate measurement of its size and growth rate. Estimates suggest that the number of microcomputers manufactured in Britain have risen from a few tens of thousands in 1980 to more than half a million by the end of 1982.
