HC Deb 29 November 1982 vol 33 cc16-7W
Dr. J. Dickson Mabon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many jobs will be provided in Scotland in 1983 by the special employment and training measures.

Mr. George Younger

[pursuant to his reply, 25 November 1982, c. 580]: Information is not available in the precise form requested. During the year to September 1983 an estimated 23,000 long-term unemployed adults are expected to find up to 12 months' temporary work on the community programme in Scotland. In addition, up to 74,000 young people will enter the youth opportunities programme during the 1982–83 financial year. The Youth Opportunities Programme will be replaced in September 1983 by the Youth Training Scheme which will guarantee up to a full year's foundation training for all 16-year-old school leavers who find themselves without a job.

Estimates are not available of the numbers expected to take part in the other special employment and training measures in Scotland in 1983.
