asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many visitors to the United Kingdom have been (a) refused admission, and (b) given only temporary admission since 1 January, from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, respectively.

The information available on total refusals of leave to enter is given in the following table; separate information is not available on refusals of those seeking admission as visitors. Statistics of persons given temporary admission by an immigration officer under paragraph 21 of schedule 2 to the Immigration Act 1971 are not available by nationality; 4,898 persons of all nationalities were given such temporary admissions during January-September 1982.
