HC Deb 29 November 1982 vol 33 cc39-40W
Mr. Farr

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the fact that the form issued by the chief constable of North Yorkshire for applicants for firearms certificates to complete asks additional questions to those prescribed in the Firearms Rules 1969, he will introduce amending legislation to require all chief constables to issue identical forms to applicants.

Mr. Mayhew

As my hon. Friend may know, we have already drawn the particular difficulty to the attention of the chief constable of North Yorkshire. The question of forms will be considered by the forthcoming working party. We have no plans at present to introduce legislation.

Mr. Farr

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the fact that Warwickshire constabulary has issued no firearms certificates to collectors since 1973, he will request the joint working party drawn from his Department and the Association of Chief Police Officers to examine ways of ensuring a consistent national application of the legislation and rules relating to the licensing of firearms.

Mr. Mayhew

The working party will be examining the question of firearms collections.
