HC Deb 29 November 1982 vol 33 c4W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy in what special circumstances under clause 6(2) of the Energy Bill tariffs fixed by section 37 of the Electricity Act 1947 would be inappropriate; and whether the proviso is intended to cover the energy intensive electricity users.

Mr. Mellor

Clause 6 of the Energy Bill would govern the price at which an electricity board would supply electricity to a private generator. Along with that of certain other consumers, the technical nature of the type of supply required by a private generator may be such that the board's standard tariffs are not appropriate.

Clause 6(2) would therefore provide for special terms by analogy with the present provisions in section 37 of the Electricity Act 1947, which governs prices to consumers generally. Clause 6(2) would apply equally to a private generator whether or not he is an electricity intensive user.
