§ Mr. BlakerWe have a broad development programme for Devonport and Rosyth which extends to the end of the present century. Much of it relates to routine replacement of existing facilities, while other elements of it result from planned changes in the future Fleet. The capital work currently in hand at these yards is planned to complete in 1986 at an estimated cost of £31 million. This includes the cost of reproviding facilities at Devonport and Rosyth consequent upon the closure of Chatham dockyard and the rundown at Portsmouth, to which my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Defence Procurement referred in his answer of 20 November 1981.—[Vol. 13, c.249–50.]
