asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on his discussions with the Chilean Government about the Sea King helicopter forced down in Chilean territory.

In the incident to which the hon. Member refers, no helicopter was forced down but a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter ditched on Chilean territory.

In response to a Chilean protest, we explained the circumstances and assured them that there was no intention of violating their airspace. We expressed our gratitude for their assistance in recovering the crew.
